More and more people are talking about it: starting a webshop! This is relatively easy and almost anyone can get started. We certainly don't want to discourage you. However, we want to warn you about the pitfalls that are lurking. What mistakes would you rather avoid when opening your own online store?

Starting an unclear and confusing webshop

Your website is the business card for your store. Therefore, pay the necessary attention to really set up a good webshop! It starts with buying a domain name: choose a clear name that is preferably easy to remember. This way, your customers can easily find you again! Next, you will create a webshop on your domain, where clarity and overview should be a priority. Make sure it is immediately visible which products can be found in your online store. Provide clear product information, combined with good photos of the products. If your website is unclear or confusing, you will generate little trust among visitors: the chance is high that they will leave. You want to avoid that!

No good focus

When you start with a webshop, a lot comes your way. You want to have a nice website, source products, choose packaging material, send packages, and advertise. Avoid losing focus. For each main task, outline the sub-tasks you need to work on, or even enlist the help of others. This way, you won't overlook anything!

Poor customer service

Customers expect you to be available for questions or complaints. If your customer service is not in order, there is a risk that your webshop will flop. Therefore, always try to respond quickly when customers contact you. Stay friendly and provide appropriate solutions. Even if a customer is not completely satisfied with a product, that doesn't mean all hope is lost. If you notice that you don't have enough time to manage customer service well while your webshop is growing, you can look for someone to help you with this.

Taking too great a financial risk

Of course, as an entrepreneur, you must take risks from time to time – this is part of the job. However, be careful of large risks that can lead to financial problems. For example, do you want to sell a new product? First, purchase a small batch to see if sales will pick up. This way, you won't invest a lot of money right away, which can prevent regret later. You must always calculate where certain risks lie to avoid them. A well-thought-out strategy provides guidance: make sure your plan for your webshop is well-structured!
