Pure Storage announces expansions to its unified storage portfolio, extending its enterprise storage market leadership into new markets and sectors. The updates to the Purity software for FlashBlade and FlashArray accelerate Windows applications and protect against ransomware for file, block, and native cloud-based apps. Additionally, they make hybrid storage for departmental and datacenter workloads obsolete with a third generation FlashArray//C all-QLC platform.
The latest updates, delivered via Pure's Evergreen subscription model, further the company's vision of a Modern Data Experience. The key expansions are:
Expanded file portfolio redefines performance and simplicity in an increasing number of use cases
- With today's news, FlashBlade's market leadership expands with native SMB support. This provides simplicity and multi-dimensional performance for very high throughput and IOPS with low latency to support concurrent workloads, files regardless of size, and sequential or random I/O access. Customers can accelerate Windows applications with a comprehensive set of data services, including replication, File System Rollback, and SafeMode snapshots for quick recovery after a ransomware attack. Validated solutions include PACS healthcare applications and SQL Server Backup with speeds of over 1TB/min for SQL farms requiring fast backup and recovery.
- The new Cross-Protocol File Security design of FlashBlade enables interoperability of access control between SMB and NFS users while maintaining the access control lists for both. The scale-up architecture of FlashArray ensures a balance between performance and capacity and delivers operational file services for VDI, file server consolidation, user home directories, and file sharing. File capabilities in FlashArray enhance the value of features such as deduplication and compression.
Enhanced security and ransomware protection for file, block, and cloud-based applications
- FlashBlade and FlashArray are now both reinforced by SafeMode snapshots, ensuring data is always safe and can be restored within seconds. Immutable snapshots and Policy-based Retention protect businesses from revenue loss, paying ransom, and reputational damage after ransomware attacks.
- FlashBlade, the leading Unified Fast File and Object (UFFO) platform, offers enhanced object security with S3 simple user policies, enabling user-level access control. Granular performance monitoring at the user level meets a critical requirement for real-time insight into the most active users. Aggregated APIs/SDKs improve the automation experience for FlashBlade, FlashArray, and Pure1 with consolidated REST APIs and Python SDK.
Disaster recovery expansion with ActiveCluster over Fibre Channel: ActiveCluster delivers stretch clustering solutions for critical applications across any fabric. ActiveCluster is integrated with Pure1 Cloud Mediator, eliminating the need to manage cumbersome third-site witnesses and allowing a third recovery site to be added anywhere in the world.
Breakthrough Tier 1 application performance: As the first to market with NVMe over Fabrics, Pure continues to accelerate its market leadership as it delivers a fully NVMe architecture for Flash, Direct Memory Modules, replication, and now also supports both NVMe over Fibre Channel and Ethernet. NVMe support can reduce application latency by up to 50% by cutting it down to hundreds of microseconds.
Third generation of FlashArray//C makes hybrid storage obsolete: The new versions of FlashArray//C40 and FlashArray//C60 showcase Pure's rapid pace of innovation. While other vendors struggle to bring QLC to market, FlashArray//C can now replace legacy disks in deployments of any size, from departmental to datacenter consolidation.

All Pure subscription services are included by default with all licenses, allowing customers to immediately take advantage of all innovations without disruption and downtime and without the need to repurchase capacity. As part of the Evergreen Storage subscription model, no additional licenses or support costs are required for these new functionalities, and they add no extra complexity.
Pure also announces file replication capabilities on FlashArray with Komprise.

The new features in Purity for FlashArray are available immediately and in Q1 for Purity for FlashBlade.
