For its large-scale agricultural processing plants, food production facilities, and industrial locations, Cargill needs secure, scalable connectivity that can be rapidly deployed where traditional network infrastructure is impractical. NTT DATA's Private 5G network provides consistent, high-quality connectivity that allows all teams to communicate, collaborate, and access their tools efficiently, regardless of their location. This connectivity also supports the increasing use of automation, robotics, and digital operations in industrial environments.

Reliable and fast

As Cargill installs SAP ERP across all its locations, NTT DATA's Private 5G network will create a network of connected workplaces, where reliable low-latency access to business applications and operational data is available via smartphones and rugged tablets. This connectivity enhances real-time insight into production processes, strengthens collaboration between frontline and operational teams, and supports faster, data-driven decision-making.

While the majority of implementations take place in the United States, Cargill is also utilizing NTT DATA's Private 5G technology in Europe and other regions are being considered.

Robotics and AI

Private 5G also enables advanced robotics and physical AI applications in operational environments. For example, Cargill has deployed Spot the Dog at its facility in Amsterdam to improve safety and operational efficiency. This AI-powered robot can automate visual inspections, monitor hazards such as equipment overheating, and enhance worker safety in dangerous or hard-to-reach areas.

'Our collaboration with NTT DATA is a true partnership, allowing us to confidently continue our global digital transformation strategy,' says Robert Greiner, Director of Platform Engineering for Customer, Commercial & Business Operations Digital Technology at Cargill. 'Private 5G provides us with a secure, scalable foundation for supporting connected workplaces, robotics, and advanced AI applications across all our operations.'

'As manufacturing companies increasingly leverage physical AI and intelligent automation, reliable and secure connectivity becomes fundamentally important,' continues Shahid Ahmed, Global Head of Edge Services at NTT DATA. 'Cargill demonstrates how Private 5G technology can bring together technology and operations in environments where traditional networks fall short, while enhancing safety, flexibility, and performance.'

Since the introduction of the world's first Private 5G platform for enterprises in 2021, NTT DATA has been at the forefront of Industry 4.0 innovation and is driving the transformation of some of the world's most reputable companies.
