Android Pay only available in the US

Android Pay, which allows owners of an Android device to make contactless payments via NFC technology, was launched in September of last year. The service is only available in the United States. Late last year, it was announced that Australia would follow in early 2016, but that has not yet happened.

No direct competitors

Apple Pay currently has a significant lead over Android Pay, although one could argue that the two are not really direct competitors. Just for comparison: Apple's payment service is already available in the United Kingdom (since July), Canada, and China, in addition to Australia and the US.

Growth of new users

Google announced the rollout to the United Kingdom in a blog post. It also states that 'millions' of American stores already accept Android Pay and that 1.5 million new users are added every month.
