Google reports this on its blog. With the agreement, the parties aim to prevent mutual lawsuits over patent infringement. The collaboration is therefore named 'PAX', meaning peace in Latin.

230,000 patents

Participants can use a large number of patents for Android royalty-free. Foxconn, BQ, Coolpad, Allview, and Nokia licensee HMD Global have also joined the licensing deal. The companies collectively own more than 230,000 patents.

The exact types of patents involved are unknown. Google states that the 'patent peace' should ensure that 'innovation and consumer choice' become the driving force for developers. Other companies can register on the website of PAX.
